Disgruntled

Everything seems to be the short term, quick fix these days. I’m sat at my pc and through the window I see two council workers making their way up the road, filling in potholes as they go.
One guy is shoveling tarmac into the holes while the other guy is ‘ironing’ them with an industrial thumper.
The result is a patchwork of varying sized ‘splats’ of tar meandering its ugly way up the road.
I have no idea how much this has cost but I am willing to bet these repair jobs don’t make it through the next winter.

I remember when they did things properly, when thy used to cut the pothole out so it was a neat square with an even depth of at least three inches all over, then, when they filled it with tarmac, it wouldnt be tapering towards the edges just begging to be run over so that it could crumble away to nothing.
They also used to run a seam of liquid tar along the join where the new material met the old material to stop water getting in and undermining the repair.

I realise that this method costs more but it lasted a whole lot longer than the ‘chewing gum fix’ they’re using at the mo. Time will tell!
